But (aye, you always meet a "but" in moments like this) some friends of mine asked me to publish a site illustrating my seaweeds collection: I know there are some splendid and very much complete scientific books where you can find (just) B&W pictures illustrating the cellular structure of ANY seaweed; some others collect ALL the latin names of seaweeds and their ancient Authors (with no pictures) - but I met some benthologists (and even more ichthyologists, sedimentologists, oceanographers, you know, people riding the blue waves on their shining research vessels) that simply have no time to face scaring and discouraging terms like "tetrasporocyst" or "gonymoblast", and anyway need something more than "Beautiful drawings of the sixteen most common seaweeds you can find off Varigotti". So: I thought that a website could be the ideal environment to join scientific informations and colorful pictures at very low cost, and these pages are the result of my efforts. If you carefully examine the contents of my pages, you'll see that sometimes the hand-written names are wrong: I can just apologize, trying to involve the lack of comforts of field research... By

.. Sapete? Uno dovrebbe meditare sull'enorme numero di siti che si trovano su internet prima di decidere se portare un mattone in più alla piramide della vanità umana. Ma (si trova sempre un "ma" a questo punto), certi amici miei mi hanno chiesto di pubblicare la mia collezione di alghe: certo, so bene che ci sono alcuni splendidi e completissimi libri dove si possono trovare (solo) microfotografie in bianco-e-nero della struttura cellulare di TUTTE le alghe; alcuni altri raccolgono TUTTI i nomi latini delle alghe con i loro antichi Studiosi ed Autori (senza illustrazioni) - ma conosco certi benthologi (e ancora più ittiologi, sedimentologi, oceanografi, sapete, gente che cavalca le onde blu sui loro scintillanti battelli da ricerca) che semplicemente non hanno tempo di affrontare termini scoraggianti tipo "tetrasporocisti" o "gonimoblasto", ma tuttavia hanno bisogno di qualcosa in più di "Meravigliosi disegni delle sedici alghe più comuni della costa di Varigotti". Così: ho pensato che un sito internet potesse essere l'ambiente ideale per unire informazioni scientifiche e fotografie a colori al minor costo, e queste pagine sono il risutato dei miei sforzi. Se esaminate con cura le mie pagine, troverete che talvolta i nomi scritti a mano sono sbagliati: posso solo tentare di giustificarmi con le difficoltà e le scomodità del lavoro sul campo... A
